LAGOS is probably the most beautiful city in the western Algarve - and the most historical, too! Once it was the home of Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans. Prince Henry the Navigator had the famous caravels built here and set from Lagos to discover the globe.

Today, Lagos offers a unique combination of a picturesque town and amazing beaches. A calm walk through the small streets of this gorgeous old town - mostly car free in the centre and around the small marina is definitely a worthwile experience. West of Lagos the famous cliff formations and the impressive grottos of the Ponta da Piedade, which can be discovered by boat as well as the "Gold Coast" with small sandy bays surrounded by cliffs, can be found. East of Lagos, behind the marina, there is the famous 4 km long fine sandy beach Meia Praia.
